iPhone screen pixels

iPhone screen pixels

Hi,

I just got my Dive today. I use an iphone 5, and the pixels of the iphone screen are too visible that it really puts me off the illusion of "being there". It's like watching a tv up close.

Later on, I tried Diving using my friend's lenovo smartphone with full HD display, and the pixels are not showing too much like in the iphone. And the larger screen of the lenovo made a better view.

Does anyone feel the same about the iphone screen? Is it because the iphone screen are not Full HD or even HD? Or does it have anything to do with the lenses?

Which smartphone is best for Dive? I think I might consider buying one.

It is a combination of the iPhone's small screen and low resolution. With a smaller screen your eyes focus as if they are looking at something closer to them even if when the contents of the screen is 'infinity'. The max size the Dive will take is a 5" phone, which is technically still a little too small but pretty damn close to optimal pupilary distance. Stefan mentioned the next release of the Dive plugin might improve this.

I'm using an iOcean X7S which has a 5" full HD display and the pixels are hardly noticable, and I would say zero screen door effect. :)

I'm tempted by the Nexus 5. Slightly smaller screen, but full HD and very powerful for 3D games. Good price too.

But even the iPhone 5 has a higher resolution than the current Oculus Rift. :) I hear the screen door is terrible on the rift, but haven't tried it.

iOcean x7s looks very interesting. I will save some money to get one next month.

I wonder, are there any ipod-like android devices that are wifi only, but has FHD display and processor with enough power? I think it would be nice to use this kind of devices instead of a phone, so you don't need to take it off Dive after using just because you're expecting a call or message.
