Gil in FFXIV

Gil is the primary currency of FFXIV. As such, there are a wide variety of ways to make and spend it. Generally speaking, crafting and gathering Jobs provide the best opportunities to make gil, especially at the start of a new patch.

Buying items like glamour, food and minions is also popular. However, these purchases are more about convenience and efficiency than gil itself.
Crafting

Many players choose to spend their Gil to buy things like housing and cosmetics, gearing their classes or having food and potions for raiding. Using a combination of methods including item crafting and selling items to NPCs, the Market Board or other players.

A lot of gil can be made by crafting weapons and armor. It's not unusual for Crafters to make millions of Gil a week, if not more.

It is also possible to make a fair amount of ffxiv gil by selling items to other players. It's important to understand that every server and DC is different though, so a method that works on one may not work on another.

The best time to sell items can be just before a new patch. This is because new players will be buying a fresh set of crafted gear to hit the iLvl cap in Savage. The gear will then be able to be melded with Materia for even greater power.

Gathering

There are a few ways to make gil in FFXIV beyond just questing. One way is to sell items to other players on the market board. Another way is to trade in Grand Company seals for Gil, and still another is to run dungeons.

The problem with both of these methods is that the time spent gathering or trading is time not spent questing, undercutting, raiding or just having fun in-game. Fortunately, there are other options that are much more cost effective.

The best way to make gil is by simply questing in the main scenario, which will give you quite a bit. From there, you can move onto some of the other activities. Leves for instance are a great way to make a large amount of money, but the profits will decrease with each leve that you complete. This is mainly because they come with a cost that you must pay for teleports. This cost will increase with each completed leve and the amount that you can do per day is limited by your 'leve allowances'.

Combat

In FFXIV, unlike most other MMOs, combat doesn’t pay the player a salary. However, the game still rewards the player with Gil for taking on quests, completing dungeons and raids, and using Duty Roulettes to run random content.

The base amount of gil enemies drop after battle increases with the level of the monster and the difficulty of the fight, and can be multiplied further by the gil booster abilities that players can acquire. Players also earn gil by selling equipment and Materia, for inn rooms, and for transport services.

Finally, a good source of gil is buying new casual gear for the player’s character after the iLvl cap is raised. This is easy enough for high-level crafters and gatherers, but requires patience to wait for the right items to drop. The game’s update cycle also introduces glamour gear that’s a good choice for many characters, but those outfits tend to be expensive.

Auction House

In the FFXIV game, gil is the main in-game currency. Players can earn it by completing quests, guildleves, dungeons, duty roulettes and selling items to NPCs and the Market Board. The slaying of monsters also rewards players with a small amount of Gil depending on the level of the creature.

Retainers can make a fair bit of money in the game through their Market Board sale slots and Ventures, although they need to be at least level 17 to do them. The more of these ventures they complete, the higher their earnings will become.

Players can also make gil by turning their gear into GC seals and then purchasing items at the Grand Company vendors. This is a great way to catch up on the latest content and iLvl cap, without spending a lot of time farming tomes. However, this method can be quite time consuming. Therefore, some players prefer to buy FFXIV Gil online.
