Can someone explain how personality-driven AI chats function

I’m curious about how some AI bots manage to sound so consistent and emotional. Like, how do they keep the tone across long convos? Is there a way to guide how the bot responds in specific situations or moods? I want to understand the tech a bit better before diving in.

With Janitor, you’re setting up a character with defined traits—personality, behavior rules, emotional tone—and then using an external LLM like GPT-4 to generate the responses. Because you control both the “who” (character logic) and the “how” (via API), it stays consistent even in long chats. You can also program emotional arcs and reactions to simulate a more human-like personality. The UI helps you tweak everything, and you can even flip NSFW mode on if your story demands it. It’s basically a controlled environment for building highly immersive, reactive conversations.
