Better lense holder/bigger lenses?

Better lense holder/bigger lenses?

by beaver11 on Apr 1st, 2014 08:58 AM

Hi,

My dive is currently in the post, and I'm pretty excited.

Has anyone tried this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:277225 with the larger lenses?

I'm interested to hear any feedback.

Cheers!

Hi,

I have not tried that alternative lens holder, but besides making it possible to hold bigger lenses the main disadavantage will be that you cannot vary the eye distance seperately for each lens sideway AND back/forth, since both lenses are stored on the same carrier with a fixed distance,

I was thinking about chopping that middle bit out so the lenses are separate...

When my dive gets here I'll have a look at it more.

Well - my dive arrived and I've had fun looking at stuff.

I do find the stock lenses too small - there is a lot of blur around the edges, but still fun to play with.

I ordered this thing from a printer: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:277225 today, so it should hopefully come next week.

I also ordered 2 of these: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000M755GK/ref ... 1_ST1_dp_1
(The lenses arrived yesterday, but are not the correct ones for the thing - I'm hoping they'll fit anyway.)

I'm just holding them with my fingers at the moment - but they are a _lot_ better than the stock ones. I can see a lot more, and a lot clearer. No idea about aspect or anything yet.

Once the thing arrives and I can mount them properly, I'll be able to make a better comparison.

Still keen to order some bigger lenses provided by Stefan when they are ready :)

Ok - so I was a bit impatient and I've chopped the end off the stock dive lens holders and glued on a makeshift lens holder for the bigger lenses.

It makes a massive difference; the difference watching goshow is huge. I could actually watch a move on there now and see the whole screen in focus.

Tuscany looks really good too - it's a bit sluggish on my phone, but much, much better to look at.

I'm using a nexus 4.

Cool to hear changing lenses makes such big difference.
I've ordered two of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251148139033?ss ... 1497.l2649
They arrive this weekend (I hope) Can't wait to fiddle around with them.
What also makes a huge difference is making the divider(nose bit) a bit bigger so you can't see the left image with your right eye and visa versa.

I've also closed the gap on sliding holes for the lens holders, and added a peace of black fabric to the bottom part so I am in complete darkness.
Last night I was watching Gravity, I started when it was still light outside... after an hour I took off my dive to get a drink.. to my shock It was completely dark.. I could not see anything LOL!!

Gravity in MX player is great!! set aspect ratio to 32:9 and enjoy the spectacle! Those scenes shot form within the helmet are awesome!!
I love my dive.. Can't wait to be even more amazed when I fit those lenses!

I have made this open dive model from thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:134496 and am using the lenses recommended here http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:93460/#comments from these binoculars http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CQH ... UTF8&psc=1. The lenses weren't strong enough for me and I couldn't get the screen quite in focus. On top of that they're a hassle to get out of the binocs. I've ordered the official lens kit and I'll try those next, and after that I may try the ones linked above. I'm probably going to print a different dive/lens holder as well as the one I made is a little to big for my head.

Bearing in mind I've only got the original Durovis and no plastic printer what are the options of getting these better lens fitted - or has Stefan (creator?) got a timetable for offering upgraded versions? Thanks.

i also would like any recommendations on how to improve the original durovis dive lenses. :)
The ones packed by are a little bit small and i have to position them direct in front of my eyes... and my eyeleshes are pressing against them -_-°
Any tipps?

Hi,

I'm from romania and i ordered the custom lenses holder from here https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:277225
Now i'm trying to get the UltraOptix lenses but i cand seem to find a place to by them where the shiping is resonable.
If anyone can help me with an website that can ship these things on a good price relative to their value or some alternative lenses or someone would like to send them to me i will be forever gratefull.
