kinect and durovis

kinect and durovis

Hi all,

I im building a little demo app with unity combining kinect and the durovis dive SDK. It is basically a durovis dive cam, but onto a kinect skeleton. It consists of a PC based host for the kinect, that connects to the durovis dive app running on the android phone, and sending all skeleton data over by the networking system of unity. The server should be the android app, and the PC should be the connecting client.

It currently is not quite finished, while the skeleton-mesh code is still a work in progress(it seems to be inverted or something) but im running into some time trouble,

I'm sharing it so other people might continue/expand with it. I would be grateful with any feedback or improvements :)

I hope the fileshare link works;

(it seems files.com truncates the filename. just rename it back to .rar and you should be good)

Regards,

Robin

*update*
Removed the executables from the file, to make it a bit smaller, and updated the code to include a mesh skeleton to follow the kinect figure as well

a demo video of the whole thing in action is here(the left unity app would normaly run on an android phone, but for the video im running it on the PC)

hello there,
although i haven't checked your project, i am currently doing the same thing more or less, where i am trying to synchronise a couple of kinects and an iPhone to receive signals wirelessly.
i am probably going to test the tracking tomorrow and i am optimistic it will work

if it does i might have a proof of concept video by tomorrow night

regards,
c.

Ok, nice to know other are working on this as well :) perhaps a point of interest; I mainly run into the issue that the 1 kinect I'm using only shows the skeleton properly when facing the camera. when turning around, the kinect gets obviously confused about what is my front and back, and distorts the skeleton. Would your version with multiple kinects solve this? And I'm wondering, if I may ask, why are you actually building the set up?

Best regards,

Robin

i am trying to do an augmented reality installation that would combine a lot of tracking elements. I cannot say much about the concept because its still under development.
however, for the kinects i am using processing programming language, and I am sending the data using the OSC protocol over WIFI.

the kinect shouldnt distort much. I am using version 0.27 of simple open ni on windows and its pretty OK. Of course with more kinects if would be better, but you will also need multiple computers, and more complicated programming
try to download processing and the simple open ni library, and try your kinect with one of their examples to see if its working properly or not.
if this works better, then your unity/openNi plugin is mulfunctioning

contact me if u have more questions

of course if helps if you are in a clean environment and the kinect can see you from feet to head clearly

(and also indoors without much sunlight, that would introduce noise to the kinect's IR beams)

Well im actually not using openni, im using http://wiki.etc.cmu.edu/unity3d/index.p ... rosoft_SDK
this uses the microsoft kinect SDK. As far as I know (and not wanting to start a flamewar ;) ) they should perform comparable. So I doubt anything is malfunctioning.(and I was indoor, and without sunlight) It is just if I turn a full 90/180/270/360 degree, the recognition software seems to get confused about which direction im facing, but I havent seen any movies of people not facing the camera, so I think this is just a missing feature.

Ah well, anyway nice to see others working on the same.

Best regards,

Robin

Kinect is drive mad a motion sensing input device that was initially developed for the Xbox gaming console. It uses a combination of cameras, microphones, and sensors to detect the movements of the player's body and translate them into game actions.
