I have a Nexus S but as it seems to be to slow for Quake, I wonder, if I could use my Nexus 7. But that might be to big, right?

What is the smallest/biggest size to fit Dive?

We tried it with an 5.5 inch Galaxy Note II, and it's just just slightly too large but still can be used. 7 inches will definitely be too big, maybe with a "crop-mode" it could work... if i remember correctly the oculus also doesn't use the full screen aswell.

My HTC One S with 4.3 inches reveals the HTC logo and homebutton on the most outer parts of the field of view, which really doesn't affect gaming at all.

Nexus 7: At Quake 2 startup I get the message: unknown command "hXQA"
and loading stops.
Any suggestions?

On my Galaxy Nexus Quake 2 works fine, just headtracking freezes sometimes.
