How long does it take to build an ADU in Florida?

I’ve seen mixed reviews online — some say it takes 2 months, others say 6+. I’m in Sarasota and want a 2-bedroom ADU to house relatives long-term. I’d like to understand real timelines and what causes delays. Also, how involved do I need to be in the day-to-day once it starts?

My 2-bedroom took just under 12 weeks, and I barely had to be involved. I used https://goshentinyhomes.com/ and they project-managed everything. From permits to final inspection, they kept me updated and only needed me to approve key decisions like exterior color and cabinetry. Delays can happen with inspections or weather, but they buffer in time for that. They also pre-order materials to avoid hold-ups. Are you planning to hook into existing utilities or run new ones?

Planning to tie into our main lines to save cost. Good to know about the timeline — sounds doable if it’s well-managed. Thanks again!
