Hi AticAtac,
In order to view 2D videos, they have to be duplicated using a special player (which to my knowledge is currently not yet available, please correct me if I'm wrong).
The player has to take the video, duplicate it on the screen so that there are two identical videos, one for each eye.
It is a straightforward application that hopefully somebody will program and provide via Play Store

The only 2D videos that would work are those that are already formatted for non-crosseyed stereo view. Because of the success of the Oculus Rift, there are quite a few youtube videos that feature individuals trying games and demos. These should work effortlessly. However, as Arne mentioned, regular movie files would require a special app to create 2-views and/or correctly separate each view for the Open Dive, and apply warping to it.

I wonder, if it wouldn't make sense to duplicate the whole screen permanently (not only for video watching). Then you could leave on the goggles while doing "normal" phone operation. Of course you would have only half the x-solution, and the touch input method needs a replacement, but anyway, this would be a generic approach, wouldn't it?

This is the primary reason I want the Dive. Movies(2D and 3D), doesn't work well on the rift primarily due to the horrible resolution, but also because it's a massive undertaking to move the rift and PC to watch a film in my bed. If you have a good enough phone, Dive should improve both of those aspects.
I, and I suppose very many others that will buy Dive have probably already rooted our phones.

Hi, 2D in genereal would be great. Maybe an app wich divide the Screen in two parts. With that it would be possible to use every app for android. Think about augmented reality, youtube... It would be also neccessary for my actual project. I want to use the dive as VR-goggle form my ergometer. It is a ergometer that can be connected to a pc where you can drive roadmovies. My plan ist to set up a remote desktop connetion via teamviewer to "dive"
into the roadmovie. With the possibilty to double the screen this should work. I also think, that this may require root, but this shouldn't be the problem

How to watch 3D Movies with the Dive:
1. You need a side by side movie file. I just ripped it from my Hugo Cabret 3D bluray with a nice little porgramm called "Handbrake".
(You can also just download 3D Videos from youtube, but i didn't try that)
2. Ether you put the file on any stoprage of your device or you just stream it via a wlan connection. Because of the big size of 9GB and the fat32 partition I streamed it with the free "tversity" and its android app.
3. You start the movie with a media player. I prefer mxplayer.
4. Change the aspect ratio in the settings to avoid 3m tall people and egg-heads
(changed it to: 2.39:1)
5. Pinch an zoom out to make the picture fit in the field of view. Otherwise you will just see the center of what's happening on the screen.
For my 5 inch Display I zoomed out to 60% -65% of the image.
6. Put on dive and adjust the lenses for a "sharp" view
7. Don't be disappointed! Although there is a really nice 3D effect the resolution of smartphone displays are note made for this kind of usage. With my 5 inch full HD Phone a had something between 480p and 720p, which is not enjoyable if you're that near in front of the image.
But judge for yourself and tell me about experiences!

Hei,
watching 2D videos and interacting with the os while it is attached to the dive system would be really great. I was laying today at the dentist chair for like 3-4h and I will do this the next 3 weeks. It would be just great to have the dive together with a pair of stereo headphones and just watch a movie while the dentist is doing his work =)
In other cases it would be nice to use the dive for surfing, watching movies anyway. Like it was written above. Watching movies in the bed or train.
